I hope everyone is having a great week. After almost two weeks, I am so happy to say I'm finally feeling better and back to normal again. The boo and I signed leases on an apartment at the end of last week, and are set to move the last Friday of this month. Things are looking up!
October, the 3rd to be exact (Mean Girls fans rejoice), marks my two year anniversary with New York City. I'm not quite sure how the bug bit me, but ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of living in NYC. Maybe it was the occasional weekend trips my parents took my brothers and me on as kids, or maybe the desire was inherent - I'm not sure. Either way, I wanted to be in the center of it all. The land where people make things. The land where people take a stab at their dreams. I was drawn to the buzzing energy and yearned to be part of it.
While cleaning out my current apartment to prepare for my move in a couple weeks, I came across a note I wrote in my journal when I first moved to the city in 2013. It brought me right back to the feeling of enchantment I felt while exploring my new home. I've fallen in love with places before, but New York City has been the ultimate romance, so to celebrate my NYC anniv I thought I would share it with you.
"I find myself liking to take the longer route home more and more frequently. It's ironic that in a city that's always rushing to get somewhere, I'm finding myself in no hurry at all. To walk down a street I've never been down before. To see a little shop I never knew existed. To take in all the beautifully unique people. To peer in windows and get a glimpse of another's world. A gallery. A fashion event. All these beautiful people. Eccentric people. I feel their energy and it awakens me. There's something about this city that just makes you feel alive and it's not because we're in the city that never sleeps, with bright lights and honking horns at any every hour. This city makes you feel alive in your soul. In your spirit. Just fully, alive. I feel home."
For my outfit inspiration this week I'm rocking a chiffon blouse from H&M, Zara Mom Jeans, and my hunter green bag for a pop of color. The detailing on this top is everything; from the open shoulders, to the ties on the cuffs, I love that this is a unique departure from the typical blouses I own. I have to be honest, I've been living in these jeans lately. They're so damn comfortable! Believe it or not, they're also very versatile and I love finding different ways to style them. The combination of this feminine blouse with destroyed jeans and chunky, platform boots makes me feel, shall I say, very New York chic.
Here's to the Big Apple, and the places that make us come alive.
